Data Archiving and GDPR compliance

GDPR's right to be forgotten mandates you archive your dark data, leaver data, data migration and other orphaned types of data.

Enterprise Tech had a great article on some often overlooked technical aspects of GDPR compliance. The interesting point here is that having integrated data archiving in place makes GDPR compliance easier to achieve. When it comes to handling data migration, data sharing, dark data, “leaver” data, chain of custody, and other topics archiving systems that are central to GDPR compliance.

Keep in mind that to be GDPR compliant, archiving systems must be able to:

  • Respond to a discovery request for personal data on a data subject
  • Rectify incorrect data
  • Erase data under a “right to be forgotten” request
