Migrate what the new system needs. Archive everything else first.
Standard practice moves the last year or so of active records into the new HCM and leaves the rest behind in the old one. Fuse Analytics archives the full history first, then generates the conversion the new system asks for, so the migration is smaller, the old system can go, and nothing is lost between the two.
Why archive before you migrate
Most new HCM implementations take a snapshot of the current population and a limited history, because the new data model does not fit the old one and the implementation partner is paid to get the new system live, not to preserve the past. The old system then stays on for the records. Archiving first reverses that: the whole history is secured in Fuse, and the migration only has to move what the new system will actually use. Archive and migrate your HR data in one step explains the approach.
What gets converted
- Employee and job history in the shape the new system’s import templates expect.
- Payroll year-to-date balances and history, so the first year-end after the switch comes out right; see Payroll year-to-date conversion.
- Source-specific extracts, such as ADP’s export files; see ADP conversions.
- Documents, timecards and benefits records that stay in the archive rather than being forced into the new system.
How the project runs
Fuse follows the six steps described in Project tools and methodology: agree the data matrix, extract, report on what the source really holds, transform, load and validate against the source. The same method runs whether the source is UKG, ADP, Workday, SAP, Dayforce or an in-house database.
Planning the wider transformation
If the new platform is not chosen yet, read HCM and payroll transformation: plan before you buy, which covers requirements, vendor evaluation and running decommissioning in parallel with the implementation. Services describes the migration and conversion work Fuse delivers alongside the platform.
Where to start
